Electronic Device Policy

2021-2022 ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICY
Students are permitted to bring the following electronic items to school: 1) cell phones; 2) laptops, tablets, iPads and other similar computing devices (“computing devices”), and 3) portable music and entertainment systems, such as iPods, MP3 players, PSP, and Nintendo DS. The use of cell phones, computing devices and portable music and entertainment systems at school is subject to the conditions below. · Cell phones and portable music and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used during the administration of any school quiz, test or examination. · Computing devices may not be turned on or used during the administration of any school quiz, test or examination, except where such use has been explicitly authorized by the school or is contained in an Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Accommodation Plan. · Cell phones, computing devices, and portable music and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used during school fire drills or other emergency preparedness exercises. · Cell phones, computing devices, and portable music and entertainment systems may not be used in locker rooms or bathrooms. · Students who use cell phones, computing devices, and/or portable music and entertainment systems in violation of any provision of the DOE’s Discipline Code, the school’s policy, Chancellor’s regulation, A-413, and/or the DOE’s Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (“IAUSP”) will be subject to discipline in accordance with the guidance interventions and disciplinary responses set forth in the Discipline Code.
Cell phones may be used as set forth below: During the school day: · Cell phones may not be turned on or used while on school property except as follows: § Cell phones may not be turned on or used during instructional time, except for instructional and educational purposes with the explicit approval of the teacher. § Cell phones may be used during the following non-instructional times of the school day: before the school day and after the school day, during the student’s lunch period, and in the following designated areas: Cafeteria, *Library, and Front Lobby. During after-school, school-sponsored programs or activities: · At the discretion of the advisor/coach. Computing devices may be used as set forth below. During the school day: · Computing systems may not be turned on or used during instructional time, except for instructional and educational purposes with the explicit approval of the teacher. · Computing devices may be used during the following non-instructional times of the school day: before the school day and after the school day, during the student’s lunch period, and in the following designated areas: Cafeteria, *Library, and Front Lobby. During after-school, school-sponsored programs or activities: · At the discretion of the advisor/coach. Portable music and entertainment systems may be used as set forth below. During the school day: · Portable music and entertainment systems may not be used on the farm. · Portable music devices and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used while on school property. · Portable music devices and entertainment systems may not be turned on or used during instructional time, except for instructional and educational purposes with the explicit approval of the teacher. · Portable music devices and entertainment systems may be used during the following non-instructional times of the school day: before the school day and after the school day, during the student’s lunch period, and in the following designated areas: Cafeteria, *Library, and Front Lobby. Headphones must be used at all times. During after-school, school-sponsored programs or activities: · At the discretion of the advisor/coach. Confiscation and return of electronic items 1. warnings with “Electronic Device Policy” 2. confiscation of item and return at end of school day with “Electronic Device Policy” 3. confiscation of item and return following student entering into behavior contract 4. confiscation of item and return following parent conference *Use of cell phones in the Library is limited to texting and listening to music with headphones at a volume that is not disruptive. You may not use your cell phone in the Library to make phone calls. Prohibition of Cell Phones and Electronic Devices in New York State Assessments Currently, students are prohibited from using cell phones and other communications devices while taking New York State assessments. However, State Education Department policy does not prohibit students from possessing the devices in exam locations. To further ensure the integrity of State assessments, the current policy is being enhanced to prohibit all students from bringing cell phones and certain other electronic devices into a classroom or other location where a New York State assessment is being administered. Prohibited devices include, but are not limited to:
Test proctors, test monitors, and school officials, shall have the right to collect cell phones and other prohibited electronic devices prior to the start of the test and to hold them while the test is being administered, including break periods. Admission to the test shall be denied to any student who refuses to relinquish a prohibited device. The possession or use of any communications device is strictly prohibited when taking examinations. If you have or use any communications device, no matter how briefly, your examination will be invalidated and no score will be calculated for you. |
